A message from Founder and Owner, Coach Tristan Mitchell:

“Hard for me to believe that we are coming up on our 2nd birthday here at the Den. Time sure does fly when you’re having fun! We want to thank every one of you who has supported us over the last two years, whether you’re a personal training client, class member, or have just read our newsletter we appreciate you. We are celebrating our 2nd birthday with a “Grand Opening” of our new location, if you haven’t had a chance to check it out, it’s pretty awesome (if I don’t say so myself). Much larger than our first location and that extra space has allowed us to offer even more.

We have officially partnered with PhysioRoom and they are now in house with us, we have an infrared sauna and cold tub recovery room, and are putting the finishing touches on our “open-gym” membership option. On top of that we are preparing to offer our first nutritional program starting in April in partnership with Tammy Damrath we will off the RESTART program. No gimmicks, this is about eating whole food and developing a more efficient metabolism. These are the first steps in our goal of Lions Den becoming your home for all things performance, health, and wellness. We will continue to provide the highest level training alongside growing our ability to bring you more than just a workout in our new home and feel so grateful to have you with us as we grow!”

Mark you calendars because Lions Den is turning 2 and we officially want to welcome you to our NEW location with Physio Room! Sign up for one or both of our FREE classes and the mobility classes on Saturday, March 7th, through mindbody!

We will have a strength class at 9:30am and our new HIIT class lead by coach Sunnee at 11:30am. Each class will be followed by a 15 minute mobility class lead Coach Joel and Dr. Chris from Physio Room. We are excited to have My Fit Foods and other awesome vendors. If you aren’t able to make or do the workout, just come hangout with this awesome community of people!

Member Testimonial: Becky Gordon

“I met Lindsey through my coworker, Kim. Kim warned me that Lindsey’s workouts were challenging and ‘fun’. It wasn’t until I did a workout at Lions Den that I got a taste for myself. I may have been sore for a week, but it truly was fun, challenging and different than anything I had done before. After meeting Lindsey, I signed up for her 21 Day Primal Challenge. I have had a fairly consistent workout routine the past few years, but always brushed off nutrition. When I joined the challenge, I decided that I owed it to myself to dial in and commit 100%. Through the challenge, I learned what type of food fuels my body, embraced intuitive eating, and demystified what ‘healthy’ means.”

“Within the first month, I lost 10 pounds of body fat, and saw first hand what a difference nutrition makes. What I love most about life post-challenge is that primal feels natural and maintainable. After the challenge, I got engaged and started to focus on my goals for my wedding day. Before embracing primal, I was intimidated by how strict I would need to be to hit my goals as I walk down the aisle. Now, following the 80/20 rule, I sleep better, have more energy, and no longer have the stress of hitting my goals because I am already there. Coach Lindsey has been an invaluable source of encouragement and education throughout this journey. I can’t wait to see how much I accomplish this year – I only wish I had embraced nutrition sooner!” - Becky

Recipe Share: Raw Cacao Balls

Hello, fitness fanatics! At Zeal, we do believe that food should be as pure as possible and sourced responsibly. But we do not believe that responsible and healthy food choices have to be in any way boring or bland. This month, we thought we'd do something special and share a recipe that's delicious, decadent, and easy for you to make at home. Introducing our raw cacao balls!

These chocolatey beauties derive their sweetness from dates and so have no refined sugar! They're melt-in-your-mouth smooth and are an excellent source of healthy fats, so they'll leave you feeling satisfied for longer. A hint of saltiness really rounds out the flavor profile. All you need is a food processor and a refrigerator. Enjoy!

Raw Cacao Balls

  • 1 cup walnuts

  • 1 cup dates, pits removed

  • 1/4 cup coconut oil

  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cacao or cocoa powder

  • 1 t vanilla

  • pinch Himalayan salt

  • extra cocoa powder for rolling balls

In a food processor, process all ingredients and mix well. Work in batches if your processor is small because you want to end up with a finely chopped result.  Using a small ice cream scoop, form balls and roll with your hands until smooth and holding together. Roll in unsweetened cacao or cocoa powder, or if you prefer, shredded coconut, until well coated. Refrigerate for up to 14 days.

#PODCAST OF THE MONTH

Peter Attia The Drive Ep 94 | Mark Hyman, M.D.: The Impact of the Food System on our Health and the Environment

In this episode, Mark Hyman, M.D., director of the Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine and the author of Food Fix, discusses that if we can fix the food system, we can solve many big problems—namely the chronic disease/obesity epidemic, the rising costs of healthcare, as well as the big problems facing the environment. Mark first briefly lays out the health consequences of processed food with a focus on the gut microbiome. From there, Mark discusses the environmental consequences of industrial farming and lays out how we can affect change on the individual level, through policy and regulations, and perhaps most importantly through regenerative agriculture. Additionally, Mark talks about the potential health risks of consuming GMO foods, herbicides, and other chemicals used in industrial farming as well as the environmental consequences, such as the loss of soil, caused by those same fertilizers and methods of farming.
